A huge Thank You to all those who donated to the Food, Fact, Friends food bank last Saturday (see below) It was a magnificent response and will help ensure that those in our community who need help at this time can be supported.
Last week’s post.
This coming Saturday, May 30th, there is an opportunity to donate items to the Food, Fact, Friends foodbank that operates in Woodburn and Penicuik. From 1pm to 3pm they will have a table in the car park outside Woodburn Miners’ Club where you can drop off any non-perishable foods eg cereals, tinned soups, pasta, rice, tinned fruit/veg, toiletries, nappies/pullups, diluting juice etc.
A group of dedicated volunteers have been quietly making and delivering hot food to vulnerable families in the Dalkeith & District Community Council area, from Dalkeith Miners’ Club, three times a week, for four weeks now. They were surprised on the morning of the anniversary of VE Day, Friday May 8th, to receive a video message acknowledging their efforts and encouraging them to kepp up the good work from the newly appointed Lord Lieutenant of Midlothian. Over many years, Dalkeith Miners Club has been a centre of support for our community and once again it has become a venue from where volunteers go out into our community to assist.
The June meeting of Dalkeith & District Community Council is being held on Tuesday, June 9th. Because face to face meetings cannot be held during the time of “lockdown”, the meeting will again be a virtual meeting online. Residents in the Community Council area who wish to “attend” should follow the instructions on the ‘Meetings’ page of this website.
A summary leaflet explaining what sort of help is available and how you can get it has been produced. It will be delivered to houses in the Dalkeith area so look out for it popping through your letterbox shortly. Some posters with the same information will shortly appear on the Community Council noticeboards and elsewhere.
Also on the leaflets and posters are details of how you can offer your services to help as a volunteer.
You can also download a copy of both the flyer and the poster. Follow the links below
